Welcome to Heart of Pargon LARP
Welcome to the Heart of Pargon LARP website. Heart of Pargon is a UK based LARP system that runs games on a regular basis all year long near Exeter, Devon.
We run one or two adventures a month depending both on the time of year and the demand from our player base. We use our own unique system of rules and
the main story arcs are heavily influenced by player actions.
Here on this website you can find Photos from previous events, Files and Rules for the Heart of Pargon system
and a friendly place to discuss the game and LARP in general over on our forums. You can also book online
for our events and adventures or just view upcoming dates to see when we're next running an event you might be interested in.
If you're new to LARP in general, there is a brief overview of what goes on at our events over on the What We Do
page. Otherwise, come along, meet us, take part and we hope not to disappoint!
If you need any further information, please email the system manager, Will. At this link you can find contact information,
the location of the club and some details of the sorts of events we run!

Rules updates and shizzle Monday 19 July 2010
From monday next week through to Friday, I will be dedicating significant amounts of time finishing putting all the updates into the rules that we've been making over the past year. Hopefully this will leave us with a final copy of the rules that should NEVER NEED TO CHANGE AGAIN (yeah right).
If anyone wants to come down and spend time with me making sure that I stay on task/proof reading/helping/whatever, they are more than welcome.
I'll be at Dunlarpin (want to spend some of my holiday at home I decided Edd, but thank you for the offer!)

An apology for the change on Sunday Friday 09 July 2010
Apologies from Ben and myself for having to cancel Sunday, we hate letting people down but this time it's unavoidable. Please be assured that normal service will commence shortly. In the meantime, here's some terrible music to listen to..
(You suddenly hear ear-bustingly painful Celine DIon songs sung by what sounds like a cross between St Winnifreds choir, Rod Stewart and P Diddy Doddy Daddy being strangled with cheesewire). This may hurt a little and we apologise for the delay. Your time is important to us and we shall endeavour to put you through to the next available slot at saga...

Sunday Friday 09 July 2010
Due to Unforseen Circumstances (tm) your scheduled game for Sunday will be being replaced with a new production (being written tonight) called Plumbing Rocks, following up from the previous day's adventures. See you there.

Missing Kit Monday 21 June 2010
Soooo, I found myself increasingly angry this last weekend... notably missing are my round wooden shield with metal cross, one black thick studded leather grieve and my two vambraces that overlap my hands.
To my knowledge, the most used is the shield by Alfie and armour by Callum. That being said I would appreciate it if everyone looked through their cars, kit piles, everything... I desperately want these items back.
And others have lost some significant things. Everyone needs to check their kit stores, urgently please.

New Video from Siege! Monday 14 June 2010
Heavily edited video of the Annihilation fight here

There's a couple of its where the editing didn't render correctly which is annoying, but it's almost 2am and I want to sleep now

Alone 2.5 Friday 04 June 2010
For those that dont know Alone 1 and 2 were the greatest and most elaborate sci-fi events ever to take place in this country.... probably. They were run by http://www.mandalalrp.co.uk/ who also run some smaller games for maelstrom and cp as well as being the force behind http://www.kangena.co.uk/. So a group of people who were execptionally good at running events and making props decided to run a sci-fi event... so what? you ask. Well i played the first one and it was by far the scariest and coolest event i have ever played. The level of immersion was astonishing for a huge range of charicter types and the best bit was only one out of 20 odd players survived.
The second event that ran earlier this year and it was set to be their sistine chapel, the amount of props that were aquired or produced for the event was astonishing. A fully working lab that was on par if not better than the one i had at uni. A working intercom and security camera system. Fully stocked email accounts for all the players keeping them informed of what was going on and what they had been doing prior to the event. A WORKING MOON BUGGY! But the crowning glory was a 15' alien queen that could walk rise up and claw players to death. For pictures of all of this check out the mandala lrp facebook page:

So what has all of that got todo with you guys, well Will has just been talking to one of the organisers and it looks like if we can get enough players then in the slot of one of the weekend events next year (spring or summer) booked on, then a re-run of alone could happen for us. Its looking to be around £150 each with 20ish players.
So get excited, ask people who have played it what it was like, do your research.
Feel free to show support and ask questions here.
many thanks
Dom

Theft Thursday 03 June 2010
Yet again money has been stolen from the Kings Banquet chest at Dunlarpin house. After last time the chest was moved into Will's bedroom to attempt to prevent any more theft. Over £300 has been stolen in £5 and £10 notes.
This is an appalling mistreatment of trust and Will is incredibly upset.
All LARP kit is now stored outside and because of this latest incident the Dunlarpin households feels unable to trust people to be allowed into this house. Everyone in this house works very hard for their money and also put up with a lot from Dunlarpin weekends without this type of incident. There are plenty of other people that are available to stay with in Exeter if you arrange in advance but until the culprit comes forward nobody will be allowed to stay at the Dunlarpin household.
If anyone has any information that may help track down who this is: E.G. people spending excessively, this will be gratefully received. (We encourage vigilante style investigations) As we are at Mealstrom this weekend, if you have any immediate information please contact Will or Alice(07933600294) on their mobiles.
If/when the person does come forward they will be treated fairly and it will be kept anonymous.
This is especially disappointing after around £40/£50 of alcohol not being claimed at the event this weekend.

So, the next Weekend Event Wednesday 02 June 2010
Here are some details for those who are still enthusuastic for the next weekend event (though I understand if you're stoked for SAGA instead):
Where: The Legion of Dreams site in Gloucester - same as the Seige of Varya. Here is their website: http://www.legionofdreams.com/">http://www.legionofdreams.com/.
When: Friday the 20th August - Sunday the 22nd August - NOT the bank holiday weekend as that conflicts with a series of other LARP systems (Curious Pastimes, Maelstrom) running events.
What: A low combat (so make sure you know what you want to roleplay) event based on...I'm not sure yet. That's not decided yet as the plot is under revision - probably somehing to do with an attack from Gweria, but don't hold me to that as that's been done recently (damn it Will).
Who: Plot is written by me, with the help of Dom & Bryn - the team that brought you Night Of The Nearly Living Dead and [one of the] SAGAs 2009 - and some input from Will, who is Willcore and we all love.
Price: £35 in advance, £40 at the gate/closer to the event, unless Will decides otherwise. Pretty bargain-licious if you consider that there may well be food included, pretty good without food. More info coming.
Catered: I'll be talking to Becky & Ben, if that fails, some other people who I know that cater events. IC meals may well be possible.
More information: Low combat. You will not get through the puzzles by simply hacking your way through waves of monsters. Roleplay will be the key, BUT this doesn't mean that there will be no combat at all - if the players do something to engender some combat, I'll roll with it (as well as there already ebing some combat).
Low Skill level: At the moment, I'm thinking this will be a 10-30 skill adventure as there has been some call for lower skill adventures recently. Enough replies to this thread might raise the skill level to 30-60 or some other threshold. Tell me your preference.
Monsters/Players: At the moment there are - *brief check* - 5 players and no monsters booked. More of both are welcomed unresevedly - check your calendars, the more people turn up the more AWESOME it will be.
Re-visiting: The event will definately involve walking from one IC place to another as the 2008 SAGA did - i. e walking in a circle and coming to the same building OOC with different dressing. Any comments like "Oh, this tavern is really similar to the inn we were in last night" would be unwelcome - there's only so much we can do as crew...
More details: As and when. Watch this space.

Seige IC Info Wednesday 26 May 2010
And here's what you missed last week on CHOP
Background Plot Sheet for Players
Here is an outline of important plot that will help you to get more into what’s happening this weekend.
Varya
The fortress city of Varya stands at the end of a giant peninsula extending from Gweria, devastated land of the Undead. For decades its inhabitants have fought a lonely battle against the Hopeslayers and their armies of the unliving.
Varya is named after it’s first great leader and Hero. Varya was a giant of a man, who led his people bravely and safely, looking after them as a father. He was one of the original Humans, who travelled far from Dvarni in search of a place to settle. He found the peninsula island, not aware of the Undead threat. As it became apparent that things were unsafe, Varya and his growing people dug their heels in, fighting to keep a safe haven in an otherwise decimated land.
As the decades wore on, the people of Varya retreated further and further into themselves, and soon became forgotten by the rest of the world. Varya himself fell in battle on the Peninsula, fighting single handedly against a horde of Undead whilst his people retreated to safety inside the Fort. They developed their own currency, Marks, as a mark of recognition for services done with which to buy goods.
His son, Xanus, now rules the people. The walls of the Fort are imbued with Gravenail, a material that is deadly to the Unliving. However, there has always been one part of the Fort that isn’t as well protected, the entranceway. It has always been heavily guarded, and never come close to falling. Without sounding to crass... they basically ran out of Gravenail.
His son, Lenton has been in a coma, having been recovered after a disastrous mission. There is much dissention within the Varyans against their leader, who disagree with the way he leads their people.
Meanwhile, they have taken to worshipping Varya as a God, the one who protects. The Church of Varya has become strong since its inception, and has long been the dominant religion. Varya, God of Protection, and his Holy Day was just a few days ago, on the 24th.
Recent missions have revealed destructive plans to invade and crush Varya through this weak point. The Heroes have gathered to prevent this, having become more involved in this secluded bastion’s business in the past year. The attack will fall as the sun sets on the 28th day of this month.
