Welcome to Heart of Pargon LARP

Welcome to the Heart of Pargon LARP website. Heart of Pargon is a UK based LARP system that runs games on a regular basis all year long near Exeter, Devon. We run one or two adventures a month depending both on the time of year and the demand from our player base. We use our own unique system of rules and the main story arcs are heavily influenced by player actions.

Here on this website you can find Photos from previous events, Files and Rules for the Heart of Pargon system and a friendly place to discuss the game and LARP in general over on our forums. You can also book online for our events and adventures or just view upcoming dates to see when we're next running an event you might be interested in.

If you're new to LARP in general, there is a brief overview of what goes on at our events over on the What We Do page. Otherwise, come along, meet us, take part and we hope not to disappoint!

Hello everybody!

Soooo, what's so exciting I hear you say?

Well! I'm glad you asked!

Next monday is a bank holiday, and we've just bought some new heavy duty rails for clothes in the cellar, and I think it would be a really cool idea to have a work day and get things reorganised to accomodate these new lovely things :)

So, any volunteers? We'll pay you in boons... as usual...

Dvarni Boards

For those of you who have not noticed, The Dvarni boards are now live.

Now for the shocking news..... I intend for these boards to be "live"!

What this means is that I have a basic system for working out the effects of downtime roleplay, including injuries and even possible death (which should be rare). On the plus side of this however the state of Dvarni will change politically and in other ways depending on the players in live threads actions. There might just be of a monthly skill award for live-thread active characters under the right circumstances.

Not all boards will be live topics, those currently in progress will not be counted in this manner.

If you wish to have a brief sheet for the rules conforming to these boards then feel free to PM me and I shall e-mail them to you at the earliest oppertunity.

HoP Non Roleplay Night Out!

I would like to propose organising a night out to La Tasca in Princesshay Exeter on the 25th of May.

They do an all you can eat thingy which I have just sampled this very evening and it is very good at £10 a head.

Forum Software Update

Apologies for the hour of downtime today - I was performing an important Forum Update and it turned out to be much more of a mission than it should have been!

After much blood shed, the forum software has now been updated to the latest version and the bug that was preventing new users from registering has been ironed out. While I was at it, I also went ahead and cleaned a few cobwebs out of the system too, so Searching the Forum should now be quicker.

If there are any problems with the forums or any part of the site (note that the forum is integral part of much of the site), then please don't hesitate to let me know - although, it might be easiest to let Will know, so that he can bribe me with Pasta goodness to fix it :p.

Important Announcement: Please Read

The majority of the criticism we receive from players is not about the refs, the monsters or even the system but actually about OTHER players. The biggest of these complaints is about others dropping out of character, not roleplaying their hits or even not roleplaying at all! We have brainstormed several ways of trying to solve this and have turned to the education system for a solution.

As many of you will be aware, students are rarely just thrown together into classes any more, they are streamed into different abilities: those of a lower ability are all taught together so that the teacher can go at their pace and those of a higher ability are taught together so that they can fulfil their full potential.

This system helps stop some students from being left behind and others from becoming bored and we feel this could solve the roleplay issues mentioned above. By putting roleplayers of like ability together, hopefully there will be less complaints about how other players act.

The council will be meeting over the next couple of weeks to stream all players into one of three groups based on roleplay ability:

Excellent: For those roleplayers who always stay in character, whose roleplay encourages others just by their presence, who put particular effort into kit, character development and follow the rules to the best of their ability.

Average: For those who stay “in game” but occasionally act in ways their character would not, whose roleplay shows potential and assists others, who put a little effort into kit and character development and follow the rules to the letter if not the spirit.

Medicore: For those who drop out of character often, distract others, who put no effort into their kit or character, who powerplay, take advantage of the system and ignore certain rules.

Each adventure will then be streamed and we will announce (along with the skill cap)which set it is written for.

Consistent effort (or otherwise) will allow movement between the 3 streams and we hope that no one will feel insulted if they do not make the top set.

No decisions have been made, so if you feel you (or indeed someone else) should be in a particular set then please PM me and I will put your views forward to the council.

Patch notes: Version 5.3

Hoping WoW players will appreciate the title...

Would ask Council to add changes I've forgotten below. Could people check these through as I'm hoping to get these published as proffesionally as financially possible!

This isn't a major change, just patching up some stuff and tweaking other bits... hope it's all to peoples satisfactions! Will take effect after next adv!

Serkanian Parries
Raised skill costs and thresholds.
Parries not useable whilst actively attacking.
Parries not useable whilst wielding weapons or wearing any forms of armour.

Light Darkness
Removed from system. Abilites replaced with following:

Shadowkin
Essence: 2
Range: Self
Duration: 5 minutes
The caster is rendered invisible for the duration of the spell providing they remain in an area of reasonable shade and do not move above a slow walk.

Racials:
Blackskins:
Cave Vision removed.

Shadow Elves:
Darkness and See Through Magical Darkness removed
gain Shadowkin and Conceal Lie

Light Elves:
Light Removed
gain Detect Lie

Damage Reduction
Maximum damage reduction is to single using standard methods (armour and skills). Abilities such as resistance of legends, some uniques and some very powerful items may overcome this. Effects doing one point of damage may be reduced to zero normally.

Alchemy
Lots of little changes...

Changes to Races/Classes
- Height restrictions RE Dwarves/Halflings to be strictly enforced. Please see member of council if currently playing an illegally heighted race!

- Dwarves gain new ability to replace broken bones advantage.

-Orcs "May not be any Power using class except..." removed.

Crossbows
Use and call single without prof. Pistol xbow skill removed, all xbows now the same.

Contingency
Max one at any time

Were-form
"While in were-form, they must be always moving toward or in direct combat with an enemy. Pausing too long in combat may cause (at ref's discression) the character to go into an uncontrolable rage and attack anything in sight unless he immediately drops out of the form."

Pole Arms
Strength or Dex for damage

Magic Damage Increases
Whole damage becomes magic (clarified)

Uniques
Number clarified to 3 spells/abilities, 3 skills, 3 potions (for alchemists), 3 items (for crafters), 1 unique class, 1 unique race.

Looting
Minimum phys rep time set for looting (core rules) as well as minimum standards

Mastercrafted plate/chain
Edits made to effectiveness of benefits RE damage resistance

Pure magic
Blows defined and their effects

Vitea Potion
Now may be applied to wound

Poisons
Now take 30 seconds to kick in, unless inflicted with through damage, in which case instant kick in

Null Mages
Back in the rules!

Long bows
Need grade of strength to draw

Scribe Scroll
Limited mana cost for making

Wary
Ability changed

Ally of Unclean
May no longer take control of player characters!

Mage
Battle Caster ability changed

Hopeslayers
Summoning spells editted so subtly I can't remember exactly what (imagine Blizzard writing that)

Knights
Editted with penalty

Assassins
Brought in line with system
