Excellent. Thank you Sonny, now I have images of Phil "stealing plot" and Luke watching enviously.

Player actions at events should affect plot (Not "plot". Though maybe...). A character's background affects their actions on event. It's the background that's not relevant to the event we want to avoid...

The first rule of Plot Club is: You do not talk about Plot Club.
The second rule of Plot Club is: You do not talk about Plot Club.
Third rule of Plot Club: Someone yells stop, goes limp, taps out, the plot is over.
Fourth rule: only two guys to a plot.
Fifth rule: one plot at a time, fellas.
Sixth rule: no shirts, no shoes.
Seventh rule: Plots will go on as long as they have to.
And the eighth and final rule: If this is your first night at Plot Club, you have to steal plot.

It's why Sonny and Lorraine were given NPCs as his human parents: they were going to play them as PCs just to get a tiny glimmer of plot reflected from Phil's radiance. Luke, now that Lorraine doesn't come, do you want to play D'arvan's Mum?

Does it involve combat cause I could get injured by a strong gust of wind or by words?
