Events: The Future of HoP

Postby Ben » Tue Jun 25, 2013 6:29 pm

It's probably one of the worst kept secrets in HoP (and it has some stiff competition) but for those who haven't heard, we are considering moving towards Heart of Pargon becoming an event system.

This isn't finalised but the idea is that instead of running 2 adventures a month, we would move to an event every 2 months.

February: Prelude event - mainly RP due to the weather
April: First Event
June: Fey Wish Event (maybe ;))
August: Saga
October: Aftermath event - final plot before the winter break
December: Night of the Nearly Living Dead

We will of course have to work on the money situation: adventures have very few overheads (small amounts of props, wear and tear on costumes/weapons) whereas events do. I know some people will be concerned about whether they'll be able to afford events or be able to make whole weekends rather than be able to just come to an adventure and we'll try to make sure we get a mixture of prices/locations/skill limits.

People seem more willing to commit to an event than a weekend of a couple of adventures :)

Also, quest requests are still planned to be available as day adventures if you want :)

Yes. Weekend events are more fun to run, write & play, more immersive, longer and generally MORE than day events..

Though the overheads seem like a big issue. Only if there's enough money.

Who is writing the October Event? Can Edd and I book it as writers? or actually maybe the first one of the new year?

What is the process? Shall I write like a proposal and then submit it to Ben?

This is 2014 yeah? Sure thing, nothing is particularly planned for next year yet except the months!

Well I meant October 2013, but I actually think early 2014 would be better, if it's okay with you?

Looking to possibly make my impact on an Event sometime next year. Lack of League and plenty of Skyrim has meant that I've got like a dozen pages of encounters and stuff just sitting around.

I was stumbling around Reddit and finally decided to take a dip into the Larp community there. Someone mentioned about what Larp sites they recommend in the UK and the following list was produced.

•Caddihoe Scout Camp Site, Devon
•Horley Scout Camp Site, Oxfordshire
•Glenny Wood, Bristol
•Candlestone, South Wales
•Huntley Wood, Staffordshire

Someone mentioned "Horley is fantastic value for money. The site manager, if Snowy is still there, is awesome and will bend over backwards for you."

I know we were a little short on sites whilst trying to nail down a place this month, so figured it's worth a look.

Candlestone looks pretty damn amazing. Has anyone here been there before?

Candleston is really nice, only problem with it is you have to have the generator on for cooking and its pretty loud and annoying

We used Candleston for Shadow Realms Cardiff from 2002-2006. It was a good site back then but I can see they've got even better. The problem nowadays is the cost: even at their cheapest (January-March) it's £800 for a weekend. Say we went for March, we'd need to charge 16 players at £50 each just to cover the site cost.
