i like the idea of having damaging spells in each sphere.

i like the sound of spells knocking you over. that'd be a nice way to encourage/enhance their use.

as has been said, fire does eventually have big damage, but it also has cool things the others don't.

(i'm aware that i tend to say 'but i like it the way it is' in these discussions a lot of the time...)

That's fair. Things need tweaking more than they need a rewrite.

How about if you pay an extra essence to any fire spell you can add "ignite" to it?

Something we discussed recently on the ref board to make direct damage spells more viable would be to make them take 1 second per essence rather than 2. This would represent that it's easier to just chuck a ball of essence at someone than to shape it into doing something specific.

Also...halve the essence cost of storms.

This seems fine.

Storms are only really a monster vs player spell anyway. It's rarely used the other way around.

You could add something like "Firestrike or Blast cast by a Fire Specialist automatically also ignites the target or something.

Only thing is, who cares about ignite? It doesn't really do anything to aid the caster in any way. If I were a monster with rags and I was hit by a firebolt, I'd probably assumed part of me had caught fire. I don't feel like adding ignite would really make any difference. It's like saying ''fire bolt Luke, it's fire damage, it's hot and it's damage, as an additional effect you're warm.''

Okay I'm being over the top. But I think if we add ignite to spells then it needs to do a little extra, not much, just a little.

as per agony except you can try and remove the clothes to stop the effect. May use persistence to act normally while ignited

But if you do that, it should have an associated essence cost

Yeah I was thinking similar, maybe something that breaks concentration.

Something I wrote for a friend once was "while the target is ignited, fire spells cost less/are more effective". Could be a cool interaction.

"Stoke the Flames" or something.

New wording for Ignite. You're on fire, that's right ON FIRE. You're going to fucking burn to death. Drop and roll twat.
