The March

Integrating command structures had been a tricky business what with the recent changes back and forth in the power structure of the human forces but in the wake of his appointment as a General in the human armies Dellam had taken to it like a duck to water so to speak. With him he'd brought up a few of his most trusted from his own sworn while filling other positions with them in his forces where places had been emptied due to deaths during the fighting. That done he'd set about building up his expeditionary force to head out to the fortresses along the Gweria border. It wasn't just in the form of troops either as he'd also elected to bring along a number of building staff in the supply train he'd been forming up as well as any experts he could find on siege warfare. It had taken some doing of course, there weren't all to many of either but once rounded up he'd got together a decent enough force as he felt was required and spent a few days settled in with his command staff discussing the best course of action. Plans were built up, broken down, changed and rechanged over the course of the time they stayed in counsel, carefully monitored for secrecy and protection by Dellams own fanatical troops and mages who monitored for any outside interference. Dellam was not going to take any chances with being spied on.

When at last the final decisions were made the troops were organised into travelling units surrounding the central column of the resource and baggage train and the march began outwards from within the Bastion, a mobile force flying the colours of not just the human tribes in places but also the symbols of the faithful of Mamazumo. Not that others gods weren't represented as well but...when a force was led by the Avatar of a god and he'd put his own men along with the masses, such was to be expected in a certain overriding sense. He had made it clear though that though he served a purpose as both General and Avatar, he would listen to all from amongst his men that had purpose and useful information to share. After witnessing the disparity with the orcs of late Dellam had no desire to put forward such an image of alienation between human kind and any other race, nor between himself and any being. They key to a strong force was strong morale he felt and to do that, one had to be connected to then men.

With a good few days movement the armed forces Dellam had marshalled finally reached the northernmost of the old fortresses on the border, setting up camp just out of bow shot of the walls. Careful watch was kept upon those walls for a day or so more then, when the sun was high in the sky, a heavily armed scouting party was sent forth to survey the damage to the fortress for damage and activity. With those troops went scouts who'd be searching for traps and the like along the way. Dellam was taking no chances with the lives of the men under his command and wanted to make absolutely sure the place was secure before he made any move in. Only when the all clear came would he even think of making a bigger move into the place. In the meanwhile he took it upon himself to learn as much about the men who were not of his sworn as possible, that he had not learnt upon the journey. A little personal information was good to have, from both a morale and intelligence standpoint.
