Atop a bell tower

Postby Blue mage » Thu Jan 21, 2010 2:15 pm

Below, the streets were full of the remants of the chaos that had swept Pathway not so long ago (and was still going on, in places). The figure stoop, holding onto the side of the tower, the street below him. If anyone had seen this, they would have imagined he was going to jump.

But no-one had seen him just yet. His clothes had changed, since he had been in the healing centre, swapping his old dark colour scheme for a lighter shade, he still maintained his mask about the lower face. He had left some money, a sort of favour to the one currently running the place.

The undead arballist surveyed the world below him with surveying eyes. Not searching for anyone, but keeping a watchful eye out for anyone of interest or potential help.

The bells behind him, huge and heavy began to move and at the sound of the first chime, the undead had vanished...

In the rocks beside him, a letter was left behind:

About an hour later, the stones are disturbed. A creature in a dark cloak brushes the stones aside, scattering the mark. He looks out of the bell tower at the people below. Vice was hard to track, leaving no traces of his passing, but there where those who knew how to find hidden people that he had contacted. Despite his thoughts, someone as pale as VIce hadn't gone unnoticed, and while he left no footprints, his scent was in the air - especially here in this tower. What was he looking for? Kylar grinned to himself....who cares? Taking a final glance back into the room, the deathly dragonkin swung and took a leap of faith out of the bell tower. He flew through the air, an eagle's cry whipped past his ears and he spread his arms as if in flight. He landed in a cart of hay, waited for a few seconds, before rolling out of it, and walking slowly, as to blend in with the crowd. He rested for a while on a crowded bench, just to shake of anyone who was tailing him...

Vice's scent is stronger here to Kylar. Very powerful in fact. Either he spent a huge amount of time here or...

The crowd parts as the people walk, as they do, and Kylar see's the undead standing across the street from him. His eyes are focused and he seems unafraid. He seems more...intrigued, than worried.

The undead lets out what appears to be a testing smile, and kicks off the wall, scurrying down an alley way. He moves as fast as ever, and on the otherside, vanishes in the crowd, simply melting into them. It seems that the undead is almost...playing. Cocky, certainly, but playful none the less.

Vice, confident that Kylar has yet to spot him in the crowd, turns into ANOTHER ally, and using the sides of the walls as foot holds, pulls himself up the walls.

Clambering ontop of the roof, he was seen by a few people, but only a very few actually bother to pay him notice. He waits, stading atop the tiles, for the dragonkin to spot him and give chase. He remains a fair distance away from the thicker shadows, and whenever he gets the faintest hint of the dragonkin, twitches to move.

A game...or maybe not?

Vice waits, ready to leap off as soon as the dragonkin gets close to the building. Watching all the entrances onto the street, before, behind and to the side.

Eventualy, Vice becomes bored. Or paranoid. Either way, he turnss and leaps down off the building, performing his own leap of faith. He lands not in a hay cart, but onto the top of an empty stall, the top of which barely holds him, even if he is lighter than a normal human.

He flips off instantly and walks back itno another part of Pathway, down a new street. As the crowd thickens, he pauses for a few people to pass him by, and vanishes with the crowds. Unless anyone could smell him now with some strong skills in the field, he appeared a sa young man, hiding his visible skin, his weapons hidden, facedown cast, as if in remorse. If Kylar directly saw him now, he would recognise him, ccertainly, but if the draginkin looked too quickly, he would miss him.

Vice took on the new persona and wandered within the crowds, occasionally channging the way he walked and the way he hid himself within groups, keeping the scout trcing him guessing.

He knew Kylar would hunt him forever, never give up. But then, he reminded himself, he could go on forever too.

He stopped in a centre of people and no longer trying to conceal himself immediately, waited for a group of friends just comign out of an inn to pass round him, before fading out of existance, into the people.

As Vice ran from rooftop to rooftop he would catch flashes of dark scales - but every time he span to look, Kylar would leap into a roof box, hidden by curtains. When in the crowds, Kylar would push people subtly away from him so they barely noticed him. As Vice walks with his friends, he notices one of them is out of step... purposefully so...Vice recognises the boots...as he looks up at his 'friend's' face, he sees a Dragonkin grinning back at him, and evil intent in his eye.

Vice grins back, as though he had expected this in some way. He whispers silently, detaching them both from the group they are with. He stands in the busy street, watching Kylar.

Thats interesting...your persistence does you credit. Now the question is: You cant kill me here without dying...so this would mean your going to drag me off somewhere outside of Pathway and execute me? Or, could it be that you intend to find a way around the protections...?

He smirks, genuinely interested. He then points to another alley way and mouths: "follow".
Walking into the alley way, he props himself agaisnt the wall, casually, the steet to his left close, but not so close as to draw attention.

I have a question for you though...and the answer can eiuthger end this, or keep our little game going for a while, I dont mind, either way, I cant win. he smiles, bitterly, What is "butch" planning for me now? Death? Thats too kind...more like a retirement...torture? You already did that and I dont feel pain...Ah wait, the Kid...he probably has something prepared...am I right?

The undead seems to accept his fate, simply. Out matched, he doesnt seem to care now.

Kid stoop atop the bell tower. Feeling the high breeze on his skin as he watched the people of Pathway below. He had always liked watching people. He swung round the bell tower, looking for traces or anything he could find. There were no stones, and no scent that he could smell. He became confused and angry, cursing the wind with Vice's name. Clutching the fake amulet around his neck. Then his eyes flashed across Pathway once more. He had seen something out there, tall and proud. A truly great and powerful creation. That was the moment that Kid realised...

... he had got the wrong Bell Tower.

Vice, becoming impatient for the dragonkin to come over and answer him, shook his head and took off. He vanished into the thick of the people once more, weaving and pushing people aside in a way that would be avoided. Ther had been a reason he had gone into that particular alleyway. It stank to high heaven. His idea had been to disguise his own scent for a time with the smell of rottiing filth. Even if it didnt, it was still an idea...

Under his arm, a piece of paper, old and worn, was tucked against him.
