Projectile Weapons

Postby Peter Levy » Tue Aug 16, 2011 4:55 pm

Ok peoples. Brief query.

Use of a blowpipe.

I am proposing that rather than complicating anything, this be the same as a crossbow (any can use, proficient can add dex to damage and call through)

Is there any chance this could be accepted straight off, or should I get unique-ing?

I guess it depends on whether there's some form of ammo involved or whether it's purely roleplayed.

Bow/crossbows/thrown use no essence because there's a good chance you will miss and you need to gather up your arrows/bolts/thrown items at the end of each combat so you can run out of ammo.

I'd suggest going through uniques team.

Certainly using ammo. I'm getting carving and painting cork darts...

That's cool. I'm happy for it to run off projectile to keep things simple.

Are you going to make the bullets easy to spot? As being small I'm guessing they will be very good at hiding in grass of any length

If you are actually firing a projectile then yeah, totally.

Though I'd be tempted to say 4 base for profs and it doesn't do knock down or through...

I'll second Sonny - small corks sound fantastically easy to lose. Though they sound much cheaper than LRP-safe arrows or bolts, so you could turn up with 50+ in theory.

Also, they definately should be able to do through, because then you can poison the darts.

Not at all. Hi by the way :)

"Through" does indeed mean that it ignores protection granted by armour. The main reason it exists is so that people don't feel the desire to shoot enemies in the (usually unarmoured) face! They're also made slightly more powerful by "through" as a game mechanic because it tends to be OOC expensive to be an archer (losses and breakages) and because we have rules on poundage of bows for safety reasons LRP arrows move a lot slower than real ones so can be avoided and go a lot less far.

We can put some real world logic on it and say that arrows/bolts might actually go through plate and you're right darts probably wouldn't. However, if Pete was in close enough range he could shoot someone in the face. Most people don't like that so by saying it can do "through" (which it might do against armour like chain/ringmail or light leather) it saves us from that.

Basically what I'm saying is because of the limitations of the game, we have to have some rules that don't make real life sense such as being able to make plate useless by hitting it 6 times with a sword. Or people not being dead if an arrow hits them in the face.
