soul damage would remain damage to the soul, and be magical (even if somehow it wasn't before)

i dont see a huge problem with converting the soul damage to just flat death damage, but whatever people think is easiest?

I don't see it that much, here comes 15 death specialists on Serke Kemi...
Warryn Coshwood - Diamond Elf Paladin of Gerethenax
Ten Tigers - Serkanian Furious Blade
Ishan-bey - Kor Sorcerer

Cheat Death ®
Rank: 15
Range: 40'
Duration: Instant
The caster my retroactively transfer all injuries from one blow/effect/spell to another creature. The damage is transferred as magical death damage or soul damage, if from a soul attack.

This can save the caster from being reduced to negative hits or soul, it cannot however kill the target outright. If it would do so it fails. This spell cannot be used on Touch of Death.

Supernatural Dodge may be used vs this spell but Dodge/Supreme Dodge may not.

Thoughts?

Sounds fine.

One thing I might bring up, I know Cheat Death doesn't transfer effects, but what happens when you're hit with something which has a Damage/Effect combined, say.. a Flaming Apparition.

I know that only the damage is transferred over, but does the caster of the Cheat Death still take the fear portion? Rules say "yes", I would argue we should make it "no"

The above version takes out the "transfer associated effects" part, as requested by Pete :)

Do we need to specifically say that it doesn't transfer effects? After all, it doesn't say or imply that it does

I don't know whether I was clear enough, sorry. What I meant was..

OFFENSIVE CASTER (A) casts Flaming Apparition at ANDY (B)
ANDY (B) uses cheat death directed at OFFENSIVE CASTER (A)

OFFENSIVE CASTER (A) takes the 3 Points of (now) Death Damage only

As Cheat Death states "Only the injuries are transferred", does ANDY (B) still take the fear portion of Flaming Apparition.

This is what I meant, rules imply you still take it. I think we should alter it to have the rules state that you don't take the fear.

The rules as they are state you take the fear as well, they don't imply it.

The suggested changing doesn't imply that that you take the associated non-damaging effect. If it does, please state where it does :)

it absolutely implies that you still take the non-damaging effect. it specifies only the damage is transferred.

it's a damage transfer, not an effect transfer.

The old rules and your update both are vague on the "effect portion". It depends what we want Cheat Death to do.

I like to think of it as a SSDodge for the caster of the cheat death, with the added effect that someone takes some damage because you're an evil douchecanoe.
I see the same for the Trick of the Light spell, except you Light Shift somewhere because you're a goodly wussbag.

Anyway, as long as we put in a caveat of either;

A.) Where a blow/spell/effect has a damaging portion *and* an attached effect only the damage is transferred, the caster still takes the associated effect.
B.) Where a blow/spell/effect has a damaging portion *and* an attached effect only the damage is transferred, however the associated effect is lost in the transfer and neither the caster or target of cheat death is affected.

It can obviously be worded better, but we should make sure it's not vague.

This

The caster my retroactively transfer all injuries from one blow/effect/spell to another creature. The damage is transferred as magical death damage or soul damage, if from a soul attack.

If it doesn't say it transfers non-damaging effects then it doesn't. Seems simple :)

So the latter states how it transfers damage from one blow/effect/spell. If someone hits you with 6 knockdown, you can transfer the 6 damage but you still take the knockdown.

I know it doesn't transfer the non-damaging effect, I'm just wondering whether now is a time to look and decide whether the caster of the Cheat Death should take the effect or not.

Do we want to consider Cheat death as a SSN with a redirect on damage.
or
Do we just want it to be a damage redirect.
