Serkanians again

Postby Ben » Wed Apr 30, 2014 9:04 pm

This is the first time the chi rules have been tested by all classes over a sustained period.

Thoughts
Chi is cool, I think it works but although Serkanians are able to put out the damage of their Western counterparts generally they are not as hardy. Where a Westerner would dodge, regenerate etc, a Serkanian generally doesn't have that level of power. I think this is something monster-setters will need to think about when statting.

Furious Blades: they seem about right. It's possible they don't need parry hits?
Shaded Blades: are written to be in the frontline like Furious Blades but don't have the durability.
Absent Blades: I think they're ok...even though we lost 3 I think that's bad luck rather than being very fragile.
Spirit Blades: Talking to Phil, they're probably too good (at least at this sort of level).

Potential Changes
Furious Blades: remove the parry hits?
Shaded Blades: possibly change from 0, -1, +1 to +1, -1, 0? Academic feels more useful than martial for them. Allow Dodge/Supreme Dodge cost less chi to use.
Spirit Blades: increase cost of spheres? Remove ability to be specialist.

I'd quite like to change to the following, not sure how people would feel about the change (existing characters can keep their current mods if they want):
Tiger: +1, -1, 0
Phoenix: -1, +1, 0
Dragon: +1, 0, -1
Scorpion: 0, -1, +1
Lotus: 0, 0, 0

Furious Blades: -2, +1, +1
Shaded Blades: +1, -1, 0
Absent Blades: +1, 0, -1
Silent Blades: +1, -2, +1
Spirit Blades: +1, +1, -2

I think parry hits on furious makes them playable over a warrior. Two handed swords are just terrible most of the time. But maybe not quite so many? Or make it a buyable ability? It hits a ceiling real fast. Im up to spending 17 skill for an extra damage grade/7th parry hit. You'd be amazed how fast they go.

I always have "why not play a warrior?" in the back of my mind.
Warryn Coshwood - Diamond Elf Paladin of Gerethenax
Ten Tigers - Serkanian Furious Blade
Ishan-bey - Kor Sorcerer

If you're going to use a 2 handed sword then: warrior gets stances, Furious Blade can switch to one hand sword (in each hand) and still do damage (a warrior would be doing single).

Two handed swords are just terrible most of the time.

That's why you get 2 damage grades free though.

But yeah, dunno about the Parry hits thing, leaving them as they are is simplest if people don't think they're OP
