Rift Spells

Postby Luke » Mon Mar 02, 2015 4:32 pm

A few questions regarding Rift.

As I understand it Rift means that it goes through immunities and resistances

1) How does this effect ''healed by'', what happens when an Undead is hit with Rift Cause Wound 2? Is he unaffected, is he healed, or is he hurt?
2) Serkanian Resist is a Resistance and thus Rift ignores it. This isn't a question just a restatement.
3) What happens if a Rift 'Dominate 5 soul' is targetted at an 8 soul hero? I would say unaffected still, do you agree?

My understanding behind it is that "Rift" solely applies to *your* immunities and resistances, I.E it makes sure the spell hits - any other conditions of the spell are still in place.

1.) The Undead is healed.
3.) The dominate would not affect the hero, it merely bypasses the Shadow Imm and Immunity to Domination that he could *potentially* have.

I'm going to make a call on this.

Rift goes through Immunities (with the exception of being immune to ALL magic) NOT Resistances. The undead is not immune to Cause Wound so gets healed.

Soul would count as a resistance in this case: someone tries to Dominate you, you 'resist' it by having higher soul (so Rift Dominate goes through Immunity to Dominate but you still have to compare soul scores).

Just to clarify

Resistance is a damage resistance (as in DR weapon blows or an Absolute DR).

Resist Magic (the Serkanian skill) while having "resist" in the name isn't a resistance, it's a temporary immunity.

Is this correct?

Would temporary abilities such as Flicker of Form, Supernatural Dodge, etc (which give you retroactive immunity to 1 effect) still give you immunity or not?

This sounds right:

If you don't have to pay essence (or chi or whatever) at that moment to ignore it, it's an Immunity.

If you have to pay essence in response to it to make yourself immune, it's not.

So, to clarify:

If it's passive (eg always on): rift goes through it.

If you have to activate it: it can stop rift.
