A good tip would be to normally call 'Double'. If the monster says 'no-effect' then say 'Magic Double'. That way you don't have to say 'Magic' 100000000x times a day.

Basically you only call the damage that might be relevant. Not a hard and fast rule, but I've found it works well for me.

I shall bear that in mind. I assume my hammer can still have an elemental enchantment applied, even though it is already magic? So I can still have it boosted with, say, fire magic?

You know what is a hard and fast rule? This from page 7 of the "Core Rules"

Core Rules wrote:Magic Weapons
In Heart of Pargon it is possible that your character
might gain access to a magic weapon. In some cases
these weapons might be aligned to one “element”. If
you are using a magic or elemental weapon you
must call “magic” or the element with your damage
call. You may not choose not to call the magical
factor of your weapon.

Even when I was dealing fire 9 (man, did I love THAT!) I couldn't be bothered to say 'fire 9' every single time... It's just easier, and if you say it once or twice then you would assume the monsters get the hint. Unless of course they receive a blow to the head, which is incredibly unli- oh...

there is a very relevant reason for calling magic on every weapon blow. Essence strike. If you start with magic 9 then just say 9 and I'm incorporeal, I'd fairly assume the rest aren't magical and you essence struck the first one.

It's a rule that goes back to the early days when there were more monsters who were immune to certain things such as monsters who could only be hurt by mundane weapons or were totally immune to any weapon with any fire magic in it or whatever. There were occasions when monsters who were immune to magical weapons would be killed by them because the wielder stopped calling the magic part of the call which led to some IC confusion "I thought they could only be killed with non-magic weapons but you just killed one, perhaps we were wrong...let's try hitting them with magic weapons again but harder". The rule was introduced for that reason.

If you don't want to call the full call every time, either use a non-magical weapon and just get out the special one when it's needed or just call the flavour part. For example, if you can call Magic Triple and don't want to call that every time, just call the Magic part.

Also, if you haven't got time to say the whole damage call then swing slower.

Had an idea.

A Personalised magic weapon in the hands of someone it wasn't made for cannot call magic damage, it's still a magical sword for the purposes of Sense Power but it's something like an electrical circuit and the character for whom it was forged is the only one who can complete the circuit.

So how about if with a personalised magic weapon you can CHOOSE whether to call magic or not? Perhaps on a blow by blow basis or you choose at the beginning of an encounter? This means those people who don't want to call the magic part don't have to but doesn't downpower items to harm those who do.

With MC items you must call the full damage every time. Crafters can downgrade a MC item to Personalised if you really want.

I like it. Shorter calls are better over all.

Pure, Necromantic, thirteen, through DAC, enhanced force of arms, through parries, unique fighting style, vicious strike 8 levels.

We need more calls like that.
