Starter: gain all circle 1
30 skill: gain all circle 2
60 skill: gain all circle 3
120 skill: gain all circle 4
300 skill: gain all circle 5
320 skill: gain all circle 6

You only need to spend skill on circles if you want to gain them earlier than the above thus keeping power levels down because most will want to save skill.

If it's balance, why not give them all circle 6 at starting and work backwards?

I think this would work for all the tribes:

Telerfret: when they see a spell cast, gain all spells
Jehovern: when they see something academic done (eg DNW, Read and Write, DR to magic etc) they gain this skill
Varyan: their damage grade is equal to the highest damage grade they've ever seen
Everni: anything stealthy they are aware of they gain permanently (eg invisibility, spectral form etc)

We'd need to give them a lot more essence to start then.

Could Telerfret be like Benjamin Button? Start with 300 skill and lose up to 6 per adventure? Might encourage bad roleplay if people wanted to stay higher skill longer though.

I still think they aren't as good as Shirakans but I guess that's the price you pay for not having make-up restrictions.

It won't encourage, probably just make an excuse for existing bad roleplay.

How about we give humans makeup restrictions? Then we can legitimately make them more powerful.

Telerfret: eyeshadow
Jehovern: full goth makeup
Varyan: lipstick
Everni: must look like one of the black and white minstrels

The original Telerfret characters (Traveller, Kerrigan and Malkass) were played in a certain style...Telerfret players since have just been keeping that style alive.

Automatic +1 skill per adventure to all human characters for portraying a human well.

I think the lack of cross dressing in HoP is a sign that we aren't actually accepting of people with different needs and desires. I mean, people cross-dress all the time, yet we don't represent that in our medieval system. It's really bad roleplay from all of us. I think these changes would definitely encourage us to be more open and fair to people of all backgrounds.

No gays though.

Ok, for simplicity let’s unite the tribes into one:

The Jevarnifret
Martial -2, Stealth -2, Academic -2
Start with:
All circles of magic, skills and abilities
300 skill and 300 essence: gain twice as much skill/essence per adventure (for uniques)
Essence regained as per chi
Can fly
Can cast Fate on self as a retroactive ability for half of their remaining essence (minimum 0)
All uniques automatically passed.
Immune to psychomancy

Restrictions:
Must wear some costume

Disbenefits:
Double effect from kryptonite
