Armour Points Query

Postby Stevie » Tue Apr 21, 2015 1:59 pm

I'm 90% sure of the answer already, but the forum is lacking in posts.

MC Plate covered by soft leather (built into one piece)

Like this:

I would consider this initially to count as 6 (Plate) + 1 (Leather).

However because of the fact it is MC you would gain the extra +1 hit for the leather portion and the DR (or whatever the Plate MC benefit is, it used to be DR vs Piercing or immunity to through - I forget).

So you get 6 (Plate) + 1 (Leather) + 1 (MC Leather) + DR (MC Plate) all in one piece of armour?

Sound about right?

Depends how you're getting the mastercraftedness.

If you're a knight or High Elf then only the metal is MC, the leather has been glued on by a cretin.
If you're claiming it as made by yourself and therefore MC then if it looks good, both are MC with the appropriate bonuses
If you're buying it IC from a crafter then it costs the same as if you were buying a separate metal and leather item.

The question you should be asking is: does the spell Repair repair all of it...

But you didn't so it's too late, FOIP.

If you cast tear at this armour does it:

A - Destroy the leather part
B - Destroy all of it
C - Do nothing

Was just going to play around with some sheet metal and wanted to see about riveting leather onto it. Was going to experiment with metal scales with leather riveted on top (leaving like a 1/4 inch metal edge for aesthetics).

Is it a terrible idea? It sounds like you think it is.

Metal provides more protection but is harder to work. leather is the otherway around and is easier to decorate. I like you idea (though time consuming and fiddly) it was the leather totally covered in metal that confused me.
I would give you the points for metal and not the extra for the leather but if you really wanted id let you pick the mastercrafted bonus (are they still different?) of plate or leather.
