Armour Limits

Postby Ben » Mon Jun 01, 2015 12:58 pm

What I'd like to do is change from a numbers based system to saying that being surrounded with metal is what interferes with magic so anyone can wear as much leather/fur as they want.

Ranger: Armour cannot be predominantly metal (studded leather is fine, no chain/plate)

The following can wear one layer of either chain or studded leather
Mage
Celebrant

The following cannot wear metal armour (buckles and decoration are fine)
High Mage
Arch Celebrant
Sorcerer
Druid

They get to wear a huge sign saying 'I am a douche!', which can be made out of whatever they want.

I like the sign idea...

Was thinking Hope Slayers could do with a rework...but for the time being, the same as Celebrants.

Agreed. If these changes become accepted let's whack them on the errata :)

As an aside; What was that rule we said we would add to the errata? I can't remember now.

I think it was Vow of Protection giving double your armour limit rather than as much as you want.

Was kinda thinking, let's get rid of Vows. Favour is so much cooler.

The thing to remember is that anyone can get favour not just celebrants. So unless your giving them extra favour your just taking stuff away from them.

Given that they are a super popular class, I don't see this as a problem. Also I don't see many people making much/any use of the vows.

Also, celebrants begin with 1 rank of faith in their chosen god, so they will begin with 1 favour even at 10 skill. The vows are cool, but the best ones have pretty major drawbacks. I see no problem with keeping the vows, but I wouldn't be heartbroken if they were removed. Not sure how other people feel about this though.

They don't have to go, I have no particular feeling either way. I wrote them 10 years ago and have never really seen people using them (and have played 2 high level celebrants and never personally been bothered with them other than the free starting one): assumed they weren't very popular and that no one would miss them.

Basically reposting because I got confused:

I suggest keeping vows.
Protection and Strife need some sort of change (now more difficult with these changes to armour). Open to suggestions.

Can wear 2 pieces of armour (eg chain and plate or studded and plate or chain) would work. A note saying Arch Celebrants can't take them: if you're into strife/protection then play a normal celebrant.

I'd also want the disadvantage you take to be more black and white (eg cannot eat meat, cannot drink alcohol are very easy to judge whereas some of the others aren't) but other than that happy to keep them in.
