Stragglers

The light seeped over the mountainous region of Noore I Meles hesitantly, almost wondering whether coming here was a good idea. The sun seemed to poke it's head around, well aware in fact that most who reside here are adverse to sunlight - to say the least - and not so adverse to stabbing at anything that annoys them. Taking a moment to convince itself it was in fact a giant ball of fire many miles in the sky and somewhat out of range of stabbing the sun then strode confidently on, blasting the region in light, baking the earth to the point where it makes that high sizzling sound, like it's bacon in a pan.

Following the lights intrusion came another sight, bounding over mountains with great speed and with a sound like a thousand seagulls being strangled in unison. It was, for want of a better word a blob of green, stretching on for many meters and ushering a cloud of dust behind it. The earth shook in the general area around it, disturbing the wildlife around. In this time it caught the attention of a few likely so and so's, who were quick with their blades and even quicker with your wallet.

3 spectres of black slipped into what little shadow was afforded by the sunlight and lay in wait, surveying whatever monstrosity was coming their way, and salivating at the thought of spoils.

As it came into view, it seemed the aforementioned blob of green was in fact several smaller mini blobs of green, moving together. With a keen eye, you could make out the individual little shapes, hundreds upon hundreds of small frogs, all walking on their hind legs and squawking in annoying unison. Amongst them was one larger frog, kitted head to toe in rags of mail and carrying a crude lump of metal that one could mistake for a sword, if they happened to be both blind and stupid.

Liking their chances and wondering just how roasted frog legs would taste the three black forms leapt from their cover and darted towards the larger green figure, blades flourished. Their sprint seemed to lose pace as they approached, and small specs of green would appear on a shoulder, or an arm, or on a head. Wave after wave of miniature frog leapt onto each man, wrapping their limbs around in some sort've perverse hug, until the combined weight meant that each figure ground to a stand still, barely supporting the crushing weight.

The larger frog sighed, in what looked like pity at the three figures, whilst casually swatting away a smaller frog that tried to jump upon his own shoulder. The larger frog walked on, heading across the baking land, feeling the water beneath the earth guide him.

From every pocket of the three figures crumbs and odd bits of food excreted themselves, to be quickly gobbled up by tiny frogs.

"Mwaa!" said a tiny frog next to on of the figures ear, he seemed to writhe as the noise cut through him

"Mwaa!" another joined in unison
"Mwaa!" chorused another
"Mwaa!"
"Mwaa!"
"Mwaa!"
"Mwaa!"
"Mwaa!"
"Mwaa!"
"Mwaa!"
"Mwaa!"
"Mwaa!"
"Mwaa!"
"Mwaa!"
"Mwaa!"
"Mwaa!"
"Mwaa!"

2 hours 14 minutes and 7 seconds. That's how long it took until the last mans brain, driven to the utmost point of annoyance and resentment gave up, and crushed in on itself. The man fell to a slump beside his two comrades. The baby frogs, quite upset at the loss of their new friends and even more upset in the revelation they had no more food decided to hop on, following the tracks of the larger frog.

It had taken a long time, a hard journey fought with.. well, large amounts of "Mwaa'ing", several now deceased new friends and enough noise pollution to last a decade but they were finally here. The larger frog settled down, taking in the sights, before reaching into his pack and removing the sign that had been made many years before. He held the wooden sign up high, before plunging it deep into the ground surrounding the swamp.
