Gruithiel Mountains

Postby Luke » Mon Mar 15, 2010 4:12 pm

Warryn, Gerethenax and Zemepatis came up to the Gruithiel mountains, the two diamond Elves tired from carrying the Palaquin but unrelenting in doing so. They marched on, slowly as their limbs would not move as fast as others.

They came up to the mountains, great constructs of Earth and warryn smiled, glad that he had brought his Lord to some of his greatest creations. The walk had been fraught with peril. Undead were well known for being in Gweria and any peasants could be air elf assassins, whenever they felt in trouble Warryn and Zemepatis would blend with the Earth, Warryn helping his Lord to do so aswell. Now was not the time for fights...

As they approached the mountain path they saw statues, one of a large undead zombie, huge and musuclar turned completely to stone. He had been caught mid attack and there was no way of telling how long ago it had been turned. There were others aswell, soldiers, zombies, skeletons, elves, all of different atire...

The trio advanced slowly up the path, for all he knew this place was filled with Onyx followers or they may not care for Gerethenax at all. The path wound upwards and a few hundred yards alone stood 4 statues, different from the rest as they were all in a line. Shields were large and round, held out in front of them. Maces in the other hand, hefty and well made. All of them stood exactly still the stone covering their skin dull against the sun. The 4 figures blocked the path and Warryn stopped just before them. Laying the Palaquin down.

Erm, Hello? My name is Warryn Coshwood, I seek the help of all Earth Elves loyal to Gerethenax. I think if they are of the same alighnments as me they should know what it is I bring them, and should have been expecting me.

There is an eery silence... and then the sound of stone grinding on stone, dust falls to the ground as the four statues move at once, their maces fall to their sides and their shields move upwards. They uprooted their feet and Warryn could now clearly see their stone skin was made of magic, their bodies made of earth, as his had once been.

Then the one furthest to the left spoke:

We are aware you bring our Lord. We have been preparing for his arrival. You may pass.

Then two moved forward to the logs to pick up the front end of the palaquin, the other two falling behind and soon all four held Gerethenax up high. Warryn and Zemepatis following one each to the side. Warryn had not noticed the scar of the symbol of Onyx over their eyes... but it made sense. Now their false god had been defeated they would of course see the earth and come back around. His hand moved to his own eye and the symbol of Gerethenax shining there, he grinned and the nearest elf shot him a quizzical look... they were just the way he had been before his change... which meant this was not going to be a nice trip...

Zemepatis was happy to have the weight taken from him. While he would not admit it, he was exhausted and had been wondering whether he would be able to even make the climb up the mountain. Being greeted by friendly faces, or as friendly as his kin ever got was a great relief, and he smiles to them, receiving a similarly puzzeled look as Warryn got. It is only when he glances over to his brother that he remembers how different they are now to their former kinsmen.

As they continue up the path, Zemepatis glances back, towards pathway, and wonders how long it would be before he gets a chance to see Rilla and Fionan again. He never had got the chance to talk to Rilla further, and he worries whether he'd now ever get that chance.

The small group advanced up the mountain path, there were no statues now, nothing had made it this far up the path. They reach a plateau and set into the face of the mountain was a high stone door. The plateau seemed stable, but not large... it would be difficult to amount any kind of force here to assualt the gates... the elves had picked their home well. In the door itself were four 6 foot tall recesses, no more than a foot deep and 3 foot wide. The Elves placed Gerethenax down and wwalked forward each one standing with a recess. They then turned on the spot so that they were standing exactly as they had on the mountain. The earth reclaiming their bodies as their skin turned to rock. A loud rumbling was heard and giant 20ft tall doors slowly opened, the elves still in the recesses.

Warryn wondered what it must be like, your only job to stand and watch guard of the town. These four elves had pledged their lives to it, forever still and watching. That or they just took it in shifts, but that was far less dramatic so he put the thought out of his mind.

From the doors another four elves, dressed exactly the same as the four in the door moved forward to lift the palaquin, confirming Warryns suspicions that in fact the doormen just swapped out when they needed to sleep or eat.

The group continued forward into the dark halls of the Elves, whereever they went the elves kneeled down to their Lord, never speaking. in fact the silence was eery... almost awkward.

Then the giant doors shut, the only light now coming from a few of the torches far and few between. Warryn noticed a group of elves in robes moving forward placing their hands on the gate and magically fortifying it.

Warryn and Zemepatis were led into a large open chamber, presumably where the head of this enclave lived, a fortified war room, seemingly impenetrable from the outside.

Oooooh this is good... I think this will do nicely, or well neutrally, but not badly... Then Warryn straightened up, trying to remember he was supposed to act as a role model, after all Earth elves probably would not respect him... no-one really did.

I am Warryn Coshwood, Paladin of Gerethenax, this is Zemepatis, favoured of our Lord. We require lodgings, a place to keep our Lord safe, and some information on what to do next. I hope the church and state can co-exist. I have no intention of changing your way of life or disrupting any sort of peace here. Treat us as refugees. I'm afraid we are completely lost in this problem...

Feeling satisfied that absolutely no-one other than Gerethenax and Zemepatis had heard him he walked further into the room repeating the same statement.

He got about half way through when a deep and monotonous voice called out from the darkness.

We heard you the first time... and how can you be lost in a problem? Problems arn't physical things, you can't walk around a problm and go ''oh no, I'm lost! give me directions!!

This assured it. This trip was not going to be nice. AT. ALL.

After initial talks with the earth elves and convinced that Zemepatis could help their Lord, Warryn packed up his equipment and made to leave.

Announcing to the Diamond Elf and his God. There is another God we should bring here, we will need allies and this one is closely aligned to you my Lord, I wont be long. Stay safe. As for you Zemepatis, do all that you can, I don't think I need to tell you how important your task is.

With that Warryn thanks the Earth Elves, a few warriors with shields falling in behind him. Then the Paladin left the stronghold down the mountain path.

Zemepatis couldn't help but laugh at the response Warryn got from the voice of this council, and didn't try, though he kept it quiet. Of course that probably didn't earn him any respect either, but then he was not the dull, almost emotionless Earth Elf he had been, and trying to be so seemed almost sacreligious.

As Warryn left, Zemepatis began to try and find out what he could of his hosts and of the state of his god. He busied himself to keep his mind occupied and try and stave off the feeling of being trapped. A few months ago he would not have thought twice about such a situation, but now, with his still fresh emotions, he felt another call, to his friends, and his thoughts drifted to them often.

((Rather than typing things out fully, Will, could you PM me with some idea what's going on, what the state of the city is and what Gerethanax will tell me? Thanks.))

Gerethanax regained strength swiftly over the next few days within the Earth and surrounded by His children, though that really meant he was able to move on his own and hold conversations. The limits of his new form swiftly became apparent, and though he showed even more mental resilience than his most direct Children, many around him were very worried for their Lord's apparent fragility.

Zemepatis had learned a great deal of his Lord and of a branch of his people he had not known anything about. For even as he had been remade, he still considers the Earth Elves to be his people. When the tale of how he became as he is was told, the Earth Elves had swiftly presented him with a decorated round shield to replace the battered thing he had been using, of the same design as the guardians of the city carried in their duties.

Soon Warryn and his escort returned to the mountain stronghold. They arrived without ceremony or agrandisement, that was not the Earth elf way. The Diamond Elf moved immediately to where Gerethenax was staying, careful not to talk too loudly or bother his weakened god.

He spoke in a low quiet voice, still monotonous as ever.
Lord Gerethenax, I have returned from my trip, and bring with me the promise of an alliance between you and the God of Protection Varya. We have arranged to come to each others aid if needs be. I hope this doesn't make you angry, I am only doing this because together we are much stronger and we don't know the issues we face.

Warryn's face was that of concern and the worry in his voice could not help but escape through.
After a few moments of silent prayer, and a few more of crude Thai Chi symbols (he had not forgotten...) Warryn stood and made way to the war chamber. Passing Zemepatis on the way he nodded in recognition and smiled at his new shield. This follower would obviously surpass him someday, probably soon. Sopmetimes Warryn wondered if he was too much of an oddity to really be a sucessful faith bringer, he was too much of an outsider, just a little too slow, and a little too plain. Still there was no time to waste and he closed his mind to the thoughts as he walked into the chamber.

General Steelyx! I have some good news for you, our new found friends in Varya offer an alliance with your people, well our people. They also wish for trading to commence between these two great strongholds. I should warn you, should you agree, and Varya be attacked you will be required to go to war...

The door swung shut and the voices inside became muffled but the monotonous voices could still be heard. If needs be, the Earth elves were going to war.

After saying his goodbyes to Fionan and Rilla, Zemepatis starts to make his way slowly back to the Earth Elven mountain. His journey is slow and long, punctuated by the application of severe blunt force trauma to a few undead who seem intent on attacking the walking diamond. Eventually he arrives at the mountain, and once the guards have confirmed his identity, he is allowed to enter and approach into his gods' presence.

The diamond elf kneels before his Lord once more and explains what he has learned.

"Lord, I have located one of the beings you sent me after. It seems to be a shard of the realm of Faith, a being of Faith itself, and it is bound to a physical shard of that realm. A shard with the power to restore the Gods, but not yet to restore the realm altogether. Pomodion Bakasiet has been restored to power, as has Eremathal's... successor. There are beings, people out, however, who are actively seeking to destroy the gods. The Faithless destroyed all but one of these Faith shards, and killed Eremathal. When we restored the last shard, one of our number was imbued with the power of the vacant throne of Air. I believe the shard itself has been taken to Fikiawe, to a gathering of gods there."
