Washing up on the shore

Postby Litzana » Wed Jun 20, 2012 8:06 pm

Half-dead with starvation and exhaustion, a singularly unique being - A Turtle-kin, one might say - washes up on the shore.

She raises her head from the sand, sees no Glooms, Undead, or even people, and lets out a long sigh, resigning herself to sleep where she lies, her shell wet and gleaming in the sun.

**Some time later several ragged looking refugees pass by gathering drift wood for shelters or fires and notice the turtle**

"I hear there's good eating on one of those things"
"Yeah...but they're hard to get into."
"We'll come back with an Avian, he can pick it up then drop it onto the rocks. That should break it open."

**The men move off towards the house and shrine**

((OC: I'll be surprised if they could find an Avian who could lift her significant distance to crack the shell when they dropped her, considering she's as big as me and significantly weightier ;) ))

The Turtle-kin sleeps on, blissfully unaware of anything.

Later the men returned, as planned, with an Avian replendant in shining armour.

"So" began one of the men "what we want you to do if fly up into the sky and drop it on the rocks."
The Avian looked somewhat shocked, "But...this isn't just a turtle, it's a beastkin, a noble creature with thoughts, feelings and dreams of its own, it's not just an animal."
The men looked at each other, one nodded sagely while another looked at his feet in embarassment, the third dropped to his knees
"We didn't realise."
"Yeah, thoughts and dreams, didn't think."
"Thought it was just an animal."
The man who had been kneeling down, stood up and quickly brought the rock he had picked up round on the Avian's head.

That night the men ate well. It tasted like chicken and the shining armour when hammered out made fine cooking pots.

Observing this from the tree line Jonas considered his options, he could step in but would be out numbered, but the again these men were just thugs and could probably do with being slapped around abit by an ex soldier. Jonas clenched and unclenched his fist, wishing he had a sword.

He observed a while longer, all this time thinking what would Corin do...

Jonas
"You have my mace" "And my hammer" "And my magic"...
"And my pillaging shovel, and my bear arms, and my fork of truth"......
"But not my kidney hat, it's made of real kidneys"

A short time after the episode with the Avian, ((OC: Here I'm presuming the refugees dragged the Avian away and didn't remain on the beach,)) the Beast-Kin stirs, letting out a soft groan. She tries to get to her feet but her exhausted limbs, already unaccustomed to supporting the weight of her shell on land, simply give way and she falls back onto the sand.

After another deep and fitful sleep, the Turtle-kin wakes again. This time, though, she feels some strength has returned to her limbs and once again she attempts to rise.

She casts round for her staff - Made from carefully cultivated pink coral, with an orb of purple living coral on top - and sees it further along, slightly above the high tide line.

With a groan she rises to her feet, wobbling a little as she does as her shell threatens to overbalance her but she manages to walk the few meters and retrieve the staff. With it she stands more steadily as she has it to lean on, and she makes slow progress inland.
